Discovery Flight

You’ve always wanted to learn how to fly. This is your chance. Take our Discovery Flight and see how easy it is to fly an airplane. You will receive a half hour of ground instruction and a half hour of flight instruction.

Course Info

One-on-one training includes a series of ground and flight lessons covering:

  • Aerodynamics and principles of flight
  • Aircraft systems, performance and limitations
  • Meteorology and weather services
  • Aeronautical charts and navigation
  • Airspace and air traffic control
  • Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
  • Aeromedical factors
  • Flight planning
  • Communications
  • Ground operations
  • Flight maneuvers and procedures

In addition, a minimum of 40 hours of actual flight training will include:

  • Aircraft pre-flight inspection
  • take-offs and landings
  • Performance, ground reference and basic instrument maneuvers
  • Stalls
  • Navigation and cross-country flight

LaserGrade Testing

Western Shore Aviation is pleased to administer LaserGrade Testing for over 80 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) written examinations in our modern computer lab. Our LaserGrade Testing Center is available from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays when Western Shore Aviation closes early or is closed entirely. All FAA tests can be scheduled by calling us directly at (920) 467-6151 (local) or (800) 242-7643 (long distance). The cost is $90.00 per FAA exam.

We are also pleased to administer a multitude of other LaserGrade examinations. These, however, need to be scheduled by visiting LaserGrade at www.lasergrade.com or calling (800) 211-2753.

Mike LedwithMike came to the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport on a whim in 1997. He took a demo flight and was hooked. Since then, Mike Ledwith has accumulated over 3,000 hours of flight time.

Baily Tews
Baily TewsWith her father and older brother both pilots, Baily started flying at age 17 and earned her private pilot rating from Maxair at the Outagamie County (Wisconsin) Regional Airport while a senior in high school.  Following graduation, she continued her aviation education through the Wisconsin technical college system, first at Gateway Technical College, Kenosha, and then at the Fox Valley Technical College, Oshkosh, where she was awarded her aeronautical studies degree in May 2007.   Prior to coming to Western Shore Aviation in December 2007, she served as a Fox Valley Technical College flight instructor.

Requirements

The Class III medical certificate represents acceptable evidence of pilot physical fitness. Student pilots (except balloon and glider students), recreational pilots, private pilots, and instructor pilots must hold a Class III medical certificate.
